James Houston teaches 7 star Tai Chi Chuan (or Taijiquan alternate spelling)as was taught to him by his Sifu Simon Chi Chung Kwong. Tai chi is excellent for anyone to practice regardless of age or physical ability. It improves balance, posture, strength, and Peace of Mind.

There are many styles of Tai chi taught throughout the world, and there is a difference between regular Tai chi and Tai Chi Chuan. Tai Chi Chuan is the older name of the system and it implies inclusion of self-defense techniques. However due to its wide usage in China by the elderly population for exercise the Chuan portion has been left off and mostly it is taught as a form of dance and balance exercises.

The roots of the style include a variety of self-defense techniques and Tai chi practitioners were at one time martial artists. The techniques included inside the martial system include strikes, traps, throws and pins. The primary martial philosophy is avoiding the opponents strength, affecting their balance and timing and striking to vital areas of the body.

This is one of the 72 arts of the Shaolin Temple. Some martial arts are based on the belief that a correctly trained body can withstand more damage than one that is untrained. Iron Shirt is said to be a series of exercises using many post stancesherbsqigong and body movements to cause the body's natural energy (qi) to reinforce its structural strength. Practitioners believe that directing energy to parts of the body can reinforce these parts of the body to take blows against them.
